4 Health Benefits of Watermelons

By: Yuki Shoji
Think back to when you were a child and when during the summer months, the pinnacle of cookouts and family gatherings was always the cold juicy watermelon that was for desert. When you were young, eating watermelon was about taste. Now that you're older, it's more than just taste that should inspire you to eat lots of watermelon each year when the season arises. It's because watermelons have tremendous health benefits that anyone who lives a healthy lifestyle should be determined to take advantage of every year. Let's take a closer look at some of these health benefits this fruit has to offer.

Health Benefit of Watermelons #1 Lycopene

Lycopene is an antioxidant found in most red colored fruits, with the exception of a few things such as strawberries. Scientific studies have shown that Lycopene reduces the risk of prostate cancer and heart disease in people. People who eat a diet high in lycopene are much less likely to suffer a heart attack then men who don't.

Health Benefit of Watermelons #2 Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 is an important attribute to have in a healthy diet because it promotes chemicals in the brain that help people to cope with anxiety and panic. These are two psychological disorders that are on the rise in America today.

Health Benefit of Watermelons #3 Vitamin C

If you thought oranges were the only fruit that could provide you with Vitamin C, think again. Vitamin C is important to not only being healthy, but remaining attractive all your life. Vitamin C boosts the immune system so that you get sick less often and it also slows down aging and medical conditions such as cataract.

Health Benefit of Watermelons #4 Vitamin A

Vitamin A works much like Vitamin C, in that it helps boost immunity, but it also help your body fight off infection. It also prevents blindness.

As you can see, eating watermelon is almost tantamount to taking a multivitamin every morning, but with a much better taste. Watermelons are seasonal, which means that they are not available all year long. It means that when they are in season you should make sure and take advantage.

When you go to the store to purchase one you want to try and find one that is ripe and ready to eat. The best way to do this is to knock on the outside of the rind. If you hear a hollow sound then melon is ready to eat, but if you hear solid thud put it back. The fruit is over ripe and you won't be getting very good flavor from it. Buy you water melon and eat it within the first few days of getting it home. Everything about it is healthy, and in addition, it won't leave you feeling over stuffed if you eat too much.

So in a few weeks, the weather gets warmer and summer is approaching. Don't forget about watermelons. Eat up and get the extra boost they will add to your healthy lifestyle.

The Fashion Show on the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards

By: Asuka J
November 7th, the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards took place at Madrid. The list of attendees included many A-List and up-and-coming stars. Compared the Music Awards itself, the performance on the red carpet is much more interesting. It makes the night feast like a fashion show rather than the Music Awards.
The most coveted star in that night is Miley Cyrus. As we all know, nearly naked style was once her sartorial theme. But thanks to a light-peach-colored silk jumpsuit with a corset top, silver beading, and nude mesh sleeves that left little imagination for audience. That night, she wore a floor-length ruffled gown. But, her version consisted of long white tiers of chiffon, a halter-top neckline, a black bow tie, and a sexy open back.
Followed is fellow teen queen, Taylor Momsen. She went a similar fleshy, pantless, and predictable route, donning black leather over-the-knee boots and a tuxedo jacket that hung open in the front to reveal a lacy bra with extreme push-up powers.
When the stage turned to Rihanna, she channeled an Old Hollywood siren of sorts in a sheer, blush-hued, one-shoulder Marchesa gown that featured puffy swirls and cascades of hand-draped tulle paired with a beehive hairdo.
Rihanna performed her new hit "Only Girl". She also bared cleavage and thigh in a super short white corset dress with an attached skirt made from clusters of colorful silk flowers. Unlike Cyrus's more sexually overt ensemble, however, Rihanna's outfit, which she paired with combat boots, came off as playful and fun.
When the camera took to Shakira, she gave all of these younger ladies a run for their money, baring her hard-earned body on the purple carpet in an extreme, deep-V, cap-sleeve Pamella Roland minidress covered in gold and black sequins before hitting the stage in a bikini top and low-slung beaded and fringed silver pants that highlighted her envy-inducing abs to perfection.
Although the biggest winner, Lady Gaga, didn't show up that night, the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards also gave us a good performance of Music feast as well as a Vision banquet. After the end of the awards, the dress style of those shinning stars' began to be popular on the Internet. Like DinoDirect, an online store. There already has plenty hot items about the Music Awards are posted on the list, such as Gaga's favorite connection.
In addition, Comedian Brand and his new bride Katy Perry made their first post-wedding public appearance Sunday, hitting the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards in Madrid, Spain.
Donning a slinky red sequined dress in the design of a cinema ticket, the "Firework" singer posed for photographers before jetting backstage to prep for her performance.
And check out, more information about the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards on Facebook.

BAKLAVA CHEESECAKE

This recipe is extremely time-consuming. Begin preparation two days before you plan to serve it.

Crust
1 pound phyllo pastry sheets
1/2 cup melted butter

Filling
32 ounces cream cheese
1 cup honey
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
6 eggs

Topping
1/2 cup walnuts
1/2 cup blanched almonds
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 (1 1/2-inch) cinnamon stick
1 tablespoon cognac

Filling: Position rack in lower third of oven and preheat to 350 degrees F.

Beat cream cheese in large bowl of mixer until light and fluffy. Gradually mix in honey, lemon juice and vanilla extract. Beat in eggs one at a time until just incorporated. Set aside.

Crust: Brush 10-inch springform with butter. Arrange 1 phyllo pastry sheet with long edge partially to edge of surface (cover remaining sheets with damp towel.) Brush left half of sheet with butter and fold right half over. Brush top with butter. Place in prepared pan, buttered side up, leaving 5 inches over-hanging at one end. Cover with another dampened towel. Butter and fold second phyllo sheet and arrange in pan, overlapping first sheet by 3 inches. Repeat with 4 more sheets, covering entire pan. Wrap remaining pastry airtight and refrigerate. Stir through filling and pour into crust. Cover filling with overhanging phyllo, squaring at edge of pan. Bake until pastry is light brown and cake is firm to touch, about 50 minutes.

Remove pan sides. Using a wooden pick, poke 12 holes in top of cake to allow steam to escape. Cool completely on rack. Refrigerate 2 days to mellow flavors, covering after first day.

Topping: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cover baking sheet with 2 pieces of parchment. Coarse grind all nuts with 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon in processor. Stack 10 reserved pastry sheets on work surface. Set rim of springform atop pastry. Cut around inside of rim through entire stack using a sharp knife, making 10 rounds. Cover rounds with damp cloth. Set pan rim on prepared baking sheet. Brush parchment and inside of pan rim, with butter. Place 1 pastry round in pan rim brush with butter. Repeat with 4 more rounds. Spread nut mixture evenly over pastry. Top with remaining 5 pastry rounds, brushing each with butter. Using ruler as guide, cut pastry into 16 wedges with sharp knife. Sprinkle lightly with water. Bake until crisp and golden, about 30 minutes.

Meanwhile heat 1/2 cup sugar, water and lemon juice in heavy small sauce pan over low heat, swirling pan occasionally until sugar dissolves. Add cinnamon stick, increase heat to medium and boil until syrupy, about 4 minutes. Remove from heat. When bubbles subside stir in Cognac. Flatten pastry atop cake. Remove pan rim from topping. Set topping on cake, using a large spatula. Re-cut wedges. Replace pan rim on assembled cake. Immediately pour on hot syrup. Cool 1 hour. Refrigerate for 1 to 6 hours. Let cakes stand for 20 minutes before serving.

Makes 16 servings.

Is Your Daily Cleanser Effective?

By: Naomi Andrews
Cleansing the skin is necessary and should be included as a mandatory part of your daily skin care regime. You must clean your face to remove all the dirt particles, oil deposits, pollutants or sweat sticking in the pores of your facial skin. These, if not removed will clog the pores and lead to acne, black heads and white heads. Cleansing is very essential for those using make up products on their face. Skin pores clogged with minute make up particles can worsen the situation (leading to many skin infections).

Soap and gel cleansers

Washing the face with plain water is not sufficient to get rid of accumulated dirt. You would need to wash it with a combination of water and soap or a face wash or cleansing gel. Select what suits you the best. Generally bathing soaps are not recommended to be used on the facial skin. The excipients in them are said to alter the skin's pH balance and produce more harm than benefit. They might act as allergens for those with sensitive skin and peel off more moisture than required from dry skin.

A face wash or cleansing gel is the product best suited to wash your face. These are soap free formulations and act gently on the skin, cleaning its pores.

Skin type and cleansers

With a mix of different ingredients varied versions of cleansers are available at the drug stores. Some are designed for use on dry skin while others are good for use on sensitive or combination skin. Special products to care for acne prone or oily skin are also available. Extracts from Neem or turmeric are added to give them antibacterial activity. Gels with vitamin extracts and special chemicals like Retinol (Skin Care Heaven Anti Aging system) which help improve wrinkles and fine lines.
Whatever skin type you have or whatever be your skin concern, you can select an appropriate product for yourself. You can consult your dermatologist to choose a product.

Other Ways to use a cleanser

Washing your face daily at bedtime is a must. Other available options to clear your skin are cleansing face packs and microdermabrasion . You can get this done at a salon or some of the advanced treatments might require assistance from a dermatologist. Microdermabrasion can also be done at home with a simple and easy to use at home tool. These tools help remove dirt and make up particles from the skin with the help of tiny alpha and beta hydroxy acid granules studded at their tips. The heads of these tools are designed to move in circular motion at a speed desired to effectively peel off the upper layer of dead cells.

These tools are effective in promoting the growth of young skin cells and thus, are also said to have anti aging benefits. But such treatments might be required only once in two weeks (from the salon). At- home microdermabrasion kits can be used twice or three times a week. They deeply cleanse the skin and give it a radiant appearance.

To conclude, cleansing is inevitable. Whether you use make up or not, you should make it a habit to clean your face properly before sleeping at night. This clean skin can breathe easily and will be healthier than otherwise.
